The OCR National Award is a level 2 qualification of the same size two GCSE’s (A* - C). Studying this course, boys will develop their knowledge and understanding of business environments and concepts.
Boys study two mandatory units. The first, Unit 1, investigates business aims, the various types of ownership, and organisational structure. Boys also learn about the importance of location and the influence of stakeholders, and study competition, in terms of price, product and customer service. For this unit boys study Aerial Extreme, a high ropes adventure course. Visits to the course and interviews with the manager are an integral part of the course!
Unit 4, the second mandatory unit, looks at communication in business. Here boys gain a good grasp of practical business communication skills – IT and non-IT based, written and verbal. Topics include: how to write memos, emails, reports and advertisements; preparing and giving formal presentations; and the impact of ICT on business communication.
For the optional unit, boys study E – Commerce in Unit 9. By completing this unit boys will develop knowledge and understanding of E-business, from the point of view of a small business of their choice, being involved in the planning the development of its website.
