PUPIL SUITABILITY TO STUDY G.C.S.E. HISTORY:
As with all your GCSE choices, your decision to study GCSE History will be based on many issues. You should consider the following points in particular:
*Do you enjoy the subject?
GCSE History is an interesting subject but your ability to do well in it will be increased by a keen interest in and enjoyment for the subject.
*Are you good at the subject?
You should have been consistently gaining good results in your assessments throughout Years 7 to 9. If you have, you will have secured the key skills needed to study History at GCSE (and beyond).
*Have you got a good range of GCSEs?
If you are strong at science or mathematics, you should not neglect GCSE History as it will allow you a good width of choice at GCSE. The more choice you have at this stage will allow you a greater choice for A-Levels.
*Will it help in your future career?
The skills acquired through studying History are varied. A History qualification will help in the following occupations:
- Journalism
- Parliamentary researcher
- Public Records Office
- Teaching / University Lecturer/ Historian
- Legal profession
- Armed Forces (e.g. Intelligence Corps)
- Police
- TV & Radio
- Marketing & P.R.
- Historian
Whatever you choose to do in the future, History is a well respected subject by employers.
