HEALTHY SCHOOLS - PSHE

PSHE AND YOU!

There are many spokes on the wheel of life...

The diagram left links to a wheel showing how you can be affected by and also in turn affect Your World, Your Health, Your Relationships and Your Future.

SMOKING

TV and Movies may sometimes make smoking appear 'cool', but the sad reality is that every year around 114,000 smokers in the UK die from smoking related causes.

As more kids realise that there is nothing 'hard' about being skint, unhealthy and stinking of tobacco, the number of teenage smokers is falling. However, 80% of all adult smokers start as teenagers! - So be warned.

Half of all teenagers who are currently smoking will die from diseases caused by tobacco if they continue to smoke.

DRUGS

Drugs have been used in society since the dawn of time, and even Coca Cola used to have cocaine in it! But despite impression the Media and Television gives, the number of teenagers taking drugs is actually falling.

There is a huge spectrum of drugs on the street, all are harmful to you and some are deadly, therefore it is very important that you read THE FACTS for yourself and not be influenced by what your friends tell you.

The best place to start is www.drugscope.org.uk an excellent site that gives advice without being 'preachy', it contains many interesting facts and quizzes on drugs.

For more information:

www.dare.uk.com is an interesting site that gives 'realistic' information about drugs and their affects.

www.drugs.gov.uk a heavy going, but informative government based site.

www.talktofrank.com has an interesting A-Z of drugs on it.
There is also a phone number on www.drugsline.org when really need to talk to someone.

Whilst www.parentscentre.gov.uk gives advice to concerned parents.

PERSONAL HEALTH

Topics like sex, sexual health, STD's and contraception can be really embarrassing to talk about, and the so called 'facts' that you'll hear from your friends are often far from the truth. Thankfully the internet is at hand to give you advice on some slightly embarrassing subjects that you may find difficult to talk to people about.

These are good sites with useful information on them:
