Maths & ICT Motivate Week - July 2009
During the last week of the summer 2009 term, the whole school took part in Maths & ICT Motivate Week. Each subject had created a programme of study for the pupils to follow for the 3 days. This included activities such as: timelines in History, chemical reactions in Science, time trials in PE and other exciting projects.
The pupils will now be able to realise how Maths and ICT can be incorporated into other subjects and how the skills they learn in their Maths and ICT lessons are relevant to their other subject areas.
The pupils approached the activities in a positive way and got involved in each activity giving 100%.
The pupils produced a variety of impressive work, especially making 3D shapes out of people in Drama. The work produced will make the pupils realise the importance of Maths and ICT and how they can be applied to other subjects.
Also, Year 8 and Year 9 in Maths both participated in West Derby’s 1st ever Maths Money Week. The lessons delivered were based on resources from pfeg’s online resources.
There were a total of 4 lessons, based on the following topics: credit cards, personal spending, wants & needs and careers.
The pupils got involved in discussing the benefits of good personal finance. This will enable pupils to prepare themselves for when they have their own financial decisions to make.
The work produced was of a high standard and was very varied, involving interactive activities to demonstrate financial scenarios, card sorts to see the qualifications and salary for various careers, group work to discuss the best idea with credit cards and posters of learning to show pupils financial desires.
Now, with the aid of these lessons, the pupils will be more equipped for making successful financial decisions.
